Avid S4 is a modular and ergonomically designed control surface for Avid Pro Tools and EUCON-compatible DAWs (digital audio workstations). Like the S6 console, the S4 uses the EUCON Ethernet protocol that provides direct access to the software functions of Pro Tools or any other EUCON-supported DAW via haptic control elements and touchscreens.

Avid S4 comes in one of six available basis configurations that can be expanded and arranged flexibly with various modules. This way, the system can be adapted to individual workflows and reconfigured if required.

S4 provides comprehensive visual feedback for the rapid identification of audio tracks. Audio applications and module controls can be assigned different colors for each function. The optional, high-resolution display modules display multichannel meters and waveforms in colors.

S4 offers various types of modules that are embedded in the housing. The housing comes in designs with three, four, or five frames:

Standard installation modules:

Master Touch Module (MTM) - The central hub for all S4 processes: With the 12.1-inch touchscreen and further control elements, you can select tracks, mute, solo and focus tracks, apply input functions and edit track functions. On the master module, the home, tracks, monitoring and settings screen is displayed.
Master Automation Module – This module includes Transport Controls, Jog/Shuttle Wheel, Attention Track Fader, a keypad and further control elements.
Channel Strip Module - The S4 supports up to three channel strip modules that let you select audio tracks, plug-ins and other parameters. Each module contains eight faders and 32 turning knobs.

Optional modules:

Display module - Each of the eight strips displays metering, waveforms, metrics and much more on the high-resolution TFT display.
Joystick module - With the two dual touch-sensitive joysticks, audio projects can be mixed precisely. The module is designed for immersive projects like Surround, Dolby Atmos, and Ambisonics.
Post module - With the Post Module, individually recorded tracks can be played quickly and aligned with their input signals before mixing them.
Attention knob module - This module adds 32 further knobs to the S4 Console which can be assigned further DAW functions like for example attention track functions, plug-ins, EQ, dynamics, and panning.
